  • Discover the essence of Gopi Chandan, the sacred tilak adorning devotees of Krishna. Originating from Dwarka, Gujarat, this clay holds a profound tale of the Gopis’ devotion to Lord Krishna, enriching spiritual rituals with its divine essence.
  • Tilak, the clay “V” marking found on the foreheads of devotees worldwide, is known as Gopi Chandan. Sastra states that the Gopis’ tilak is made from sandalwood, not clay. However, the name persists.
  • Traditionally, tilak was believed to be clay from the banks of the sacred Ganges, but it is mined from a dry river bed in Dwarka, Gujarat.
  • The connection with the Gopis dates back to the time when Lord Krishna played the role of a King in Dwarka. During a pilgrimage to Kurukshetra, the Gopis secretly met Krishna in a forest to perform the Rasa dance. Afterwards, Krishna took them to a nearby lake, where their adornments washed off and merged with the clay at the bottom.
  • This divine Chandan, originating from the bodies of the Gopis, has been used by devotees of Krishna for adornment since ancient times. Some believe it still carries the fragrance of heavenly substances.
  • According to the Padma Purana, wearing Gopi Chandan during Vedic rites ensures the full benefit of the acts, even if mantras are chanted with errors.
  • Experience the spiritual significance of Gopi Chandan and deepen your devotion to Lord Krishna with this sacred clay.
