Description

The mridanga is a two-headed, barrel-shaped drum that plays a crucial role in Indian classical music. It is constructed with a wooden body, covered on both ends with goat or buffalo skin. The top head (called the “bayana”) is smaller and tighter, producing a higher pitch, while the bottom head (called the “taila”) is larger and looser, creating a lower pitch.

The mridanga is typically played with a pair of sticks (called “badik”), one for each head. The player strikes the heads in various combinations to create a complex rhythm accompanying the melody. The mridanga is renowned for producing a wide range of sounds, from soft and subtle to loud and powerful.

This particular mridanga features a beautiful purple finish and a comfortable strap for carrying. It is likely a high-quality instrument suitable for both beginners and experienced musicians.
